Research in the Atmospheric Aerosol Group
Position: Graduate Research Assistants Students interested in the Atmospheric Aerosol Group can find information on applying at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography site:
Positions for research assistants in the Atmospheric Aerosol Group will be available starting in June 2008 for thesis topics related to one or more of the following topic areas. Position:
Postdoctoral
Scholar Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of
California San Diego seeks a postdoctoral research associate for
analysis and modeling of atmospheric aerosol particle
measurements. The project will involve a review of a wide variety
of aerosol measurements in the context of improving global climate
models, with particular attention to organic aerosol measurements by
mass spectrometry, FTIR, and NEXAFS. A strong background in
aerosol chemical composition and their evolution in the environment is
required, and a working knowledge of programming for data analysis with
statistical packages is a strong advantage. A completed PhD in a
relevant field of engineering or science is required, along with a
demonstrated commitment to publication of results. The position
lasts for 2 years, with an initial appointment of 1 year at $42,000 per
year (higher salaries commensurate with experience). Additional
information about the position, including a list of related
publications is posted at http://aerosol.ucsd.edu. The anticipated
start date is 1 March 2008.
Please send as a single pdf file a curriculum vitae, statement of research interests, your thesis abstract, publications, and the names of three professional references to: Prof. Lynn Russell at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at University of California San Diego is an equal opportunity employer.
Organic Aerosol Measurements at Polar and Marine
Field campaigns Applications are solicited for an Assistant
Project Scientist position at the Center for Atmospheric Sciences
(CAS). Potential candidates should have a Ph.D. in atmospheric
chemistry or a related discipline. A minimum of 2 years
experience are
required after the Ph.D. in experimental research in one or more of the
following areas: aerosol chemistry, infrared spectroscopy, aerosol mass
spectrometry, organic chemistry, cloud-aerosol physics and
chemistry.
Experience can be demonstrated via publication records and experience
in field experiments and instrument development. Everything being
equal, skills and demonstrated experience in measuring organic particle
composition and interpreting results of shipboard, airborne, and other
field measurements are desirable.
The successful candidate will help in the collection and interpretation of aerosol composition measurements using infrared spectrometry and aerosol mass spectrometry. Other duties include help in operation of instrumentation in the lab and at field locations, data analyses, and proposal development. The initial appointment is for two years, and is renewable depending on performance and the continued availability of funds. Salaries offered will be commensurate with experience and according to current University of California salary scales. Applications received before 1 January 2008 will get full consideration, and the position will remain open until filled. The anticipated start date is 1 March 2008.
